The New Group Appoints Chris Kam as Director of Marketing

Tom O’Connor Consulting Group (TOCG) is pleased to announce that Chris Kam has been appointed Director of Marketing by award-winning Off-Broadway company, The New Group.

TOCG placed Chris in this role in an interim capacity in late 2020, and we’re thrilled that The New Group team has invited him to assume the role permanently. Chris has been instrumental in the recent launch of The New Group Off Stage’s slate of online programming and will play a pivotal role in the company’s return to in-person performances. (Tom O’Connor Consulting Group is also currently conducting a search for The New Group’s Director of External Affairs—a role which will unify both Marketing and Development.)

Kam has previously worked in a variety of capacities in arts management. As a theater producer, he’s overseen one-off projects in downtown spaces, storefronts and basements, as well as productions with The Civilians, The Foundry Theatre, PS 122 and St. Ann’s Warehouse. He has also worked as a general management and accounting professional in-house with Off-Broadway theatres including Atlantic Theater Company and SohoRep, and as a consultant with several artists and theatre organizations to help them establish appropriate financial practices and operating systems.

For the last few years Chris has shifted his focus to arts marketing and communications, working within advertising agencies and cultural institutions including Samuel French. Most recently, Chris was Marketing Manager at MCC Theater during their first season at the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space.

Tom O’Connor Consulting Group has just launched a search for the Director of External Relations at The New Group. Reporting to the Executive Director, this newly formed role will lead The New Group’s Development and Marketing departments and will be responsible for generating the revenue required to support the growth and advancement of the organization.
