Flint Institute of Music Appoints Carly Uhrig as Director of Marketing

Tom O’Connor Consulting Group (TOCG) is pleased to announce that Carly Uhrig (she/her) has been appointed Director of Marketing by Flint Institute of Music, a multi-disciplinary performing arts organization located in Flint, Michigan, following our extensive national search led by Tom O’Connor and contractor Tomi Douglas. The Flint Institute of Music (“FIM”) is home to a broad array of organizations, including the Flint Symphony Orchestra, the Flint School of the Performing Arts, and the Flint Repertory Theatre.

Carly Uhrig joins FIM following her most recent role as Marketing Manager at the Oakland University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance in Rochester, MI, where she managed and executed the marketing for three performing arts departments, including brand management, community outreach, audience engagement, email communications, social media and digital storytelling, advertising, and graphic design. Carly started her career in music education as the Director of Bands for the Madison District Public Schools (Madison Heights, MI) and she currently serves as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Oakland University School of Music, Theatre and Dance, where she teaches a course called Foundations of Rock. Carly holds music degrees from the University of Michigan (BM, Music Education) and New York University (MA, Music Business.)

“We are thrilled to welcome Carly to FIM,” says Ann Marie Van Duyne, the Vice President, External Relations of FIM. “Her extensive professional experience and training perfectly align with the needs of a growing multi-genre performing arts organization.”

"I was drawn to FIM because of its structure as a multi-disciplinary performing arts organization — it presents and produces music, theatre and dance as well as housing the largest community arts school in Michigan — but I knew that I needed to work there because of their commitment to bringing the performing arts to the community, for everyone,” says Carly. “My transition from OU to FIM has been rather seamless due to the excellent guidance of Tomi Douglas, she made sure all of my questions were answered and that my needs were met."

“At TOCG we were determined to find the right person to lead FIM’s wonderful marketing team into its next chapter, and I think we’ve struck gold with Carly,” says Tomi Douglas, TOCG Consultant and Search Lead. “Her expertise, her strategic savvy, and her understanding of the challenges facing modern arts presenters is unmatched - she’ll bring so much value to FIM and it’s the perfect place for her to grow.”
