Playwrights Horizons in New York, NY seeks its next Managing Director (MD) to partner with Artistic Director Adam Greenfield in leading one of the most prolific Off-Broadway theaters in New York City. Playwrights Horizons is a writer’s theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary American playwrights, composers, and lyricists, and the production of innovative new works. Since its founding, Playwrights’ production history includes more than 400 new plays and musicals, including seven premieres that earned the Pulitzer Prize, including A Strange Loop, which won the Tony for Best New Musical in 2022. 

The Managing Director is responsible for the overall business, administrative, and operational management of the organization, encompassing both Uptown and Downtown locations. This includes leadership and oversight in the areas of fundraising, budgeting, financial management, HR, board relations, and hiring of key senior staff. The role also oversees capital project planning and implementation. The Managing Director is the driver of long-range planning and strategic goals for the organization, in collaboration with the Artistic Director and the Board.
